About the Kitchen Companion

Care, comfort and nourishment.

We're about more than just filling a plate.

At The Kitchen Companion, food is about far more than filling a plate. It is about care, comfort, nourishment and making everyday life feel more manageable.

What began through hands-on support in people’s homes has grown into something bigger: a heart-led food business built around fresh, home-style meals, practical support and the belief that eating well should feel easier for more people.

Today, The Kitchen Companion serves the wider Adelaide community with fresh meal delivery, while still offering trusted NDIS cooking and daily living support. The heart of the business remains the same – real food, real care and support that meets people where they are.

Meet Simone

The Kitchen Companion was founded by Simone Hanby, whose experience with food goes far beyond recipes.

Simone has spent decades feeding people – first in her own home as a single mother raising three boys, and later in a household of seven, where she learned how to balance different appetites, dietary needs, taste preferences and budgets all at once.

That lived experience is part of what makes Simone’s approach so grounded. She understands that for many people, eating well is not just about knowing what is healthy. It is about time, energy, budget, confidence, support and having systems that actually work in daily life.

The Kitchen Companion brings all of that together through thoughtful meals, practical support and a genuine love of looking after people through food.

OUR DIFFERENCE

Small Batches,
Real Food

We cook in small batches using real ingredients and recipes that feel familiar, balanced and full of flavour. We care about the details, from the quality of the ingredients to the experience of opening the fridge and knowing something good is already taken care of.

We also understand that food is rarely one-size-fits-all. Dietary needs, intolerances and sensitivities are part of life, and we take them seriously. Our menus are shaped with this in mind, with support from experienced food professionals including chefs, a dietitian and a nutritionist.

Where We're Headed

As the business grows, so does the vision behind it: fresh meal delivery for the wider community, specialised support for people with dietary needs, practical NDIS services, and soon, workshops and curated kitchen tools designed to make cooking and daily life feel easier.

The goal is simple. To help more people feel fed, supported and taken care of.
